Assembly Speakers

Hoosier Boys' State provides special speakers for its assemblies.  This year HBS has secured the following personalities for its assembly programs:

Saturday at 1:30 p.m. the first day, a former HBS Governor and representative to Boys' Nation (1980 from Jasper, Indiana), [speaker to be announced later], will welcome our delegates.

Saturday at 8:00 p.m. a former three-term mayor of Seymour, Indiana, and five-term former member of the House of Representatives in the Indiana General Assembly, Bill Bailey, will give our program's keynote speech.  Bill is a former boys' stater from Kentucky.  He has also been a counselor at Hoosier Boys' State for five years.  Currently Bill is president of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce located in Seymour, Indiana.

Also Saturday evening, the 13th, Scott Weyler, Chuck Mason, and Jim Phipps will present our flag folding demonstration and a reading in recognition of our Flag Day celebration.

Sunday at 8:00 p.m., June 14th, The Honorable Kreg Battles, State Representatinve from Vincennes, Indiana, will reflect on the relative value Hoosier Boys' State has been for him ( http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_democrats/battles_biography.html ).

Monday morning (10:00 a.m.), June 15th, The Honorable Brad Ellsworth will speak to the assembly of delegates regarding his first term as a member of the House of Representatives in the Congress of the United States (8th District).  Before his election to the House of Representatives, Brad was the Sheriff of Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

[date and time to be announced later], The Honorable Randall Shepard, Chief Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court and  The Honorable Associate Justices Sullivan, Dickson, Rucker, and Boehm will hear arguments in the appeal of the State of Indiana vs. American Family Voices, Inc., Jim Gonzalez and John Does 2-10 under Cause No. 31S00-0803-CV-139.

Tuesday evening (8:00 p.m.), June 16th, each of the political parties will have a rally.  Keynote speakers will charge their respective parties with enthusiasm and direction.

Wednesday morning (10:00 a.m.), June 17th, delegates will witness the two governor candidates debate the issues.

Wednesday evening (8:00 p.m.) The assembly will receive Donald Van Der Moere II, Chief Deputy for the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office who will present the Oath of Office to the newley elected, 72nd  Hoosier Boys' State Governor.  Don was also an HBS counselor for three (3) years.

Thursday at 8:00 p.m., the 19th of June, parents are encouraged to attend the HBS Talent Show performed by various and wonderfully talented delegates assisted by Scott Weyler and Chuck Mason as stage hands and members of the talent selection committee.

Friday, 10:00 a.m., 19 June 2009, Dawn Herring from Indiana Senator Richard Lugar's Office will discuss the military academies.

Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., the assembly will welcome Marty Justis of the Americanism Programs, The American Legion's National Headquarters, who will address the graduating delegates during the awards ceremony.  Again, parents and friends and other dignataries of the American Legion are welcome and encouraged to attend.


County Schools
Each Hoosier Boys' State county has an instructor (an assistant dean) and four (4) counselors (two for each city in the County.

Ayers County will meet in Holmstedt Hall, Room 103: the assistant dean is John Evans

Bole County will also meet in Holmsted Hall, Room 102: the assistant dean is Scotty Weyler 

Julian County will meet in Rhoads Hall on the Mezzanine: the assistant dean is Jerry Baker 

Kuhn County will meet in the Formal Lounge in Cromwell Hall: the assistant dean is Dan Henn

Napier County will meet in Mills Hall on the Mezzanine: the assistant dean is Craig Van Soest

Ohl County will meet in Blumberg Hall on the Mezzanine: the assistant dean is Bill Broderick

Sweet County will meet in Room 022 of the Science Building: the assistant dean is Bart Cassida

Titus County will meet in Tirey Hall Heritage Ballroom: the assistant dean is Ted Schirr



Special Schools

Special Schools are so designated for the reason that they are provided as break-away enrichment programs outside but related to the regular curriculum.
